Post LOCATE STEERING COLUMN

I WAS WONDERING IF ANY OF YOU HAVE A STEADFAST RULE OR FORMULA TO LOCATE THE HOLE FOR A STEERING COLUMN ON ANY FIBERGLASS ROD. MY SPECIFIC CAR IS A 36 FORD COUPE.
I KNOW THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL HAS TO COME THROUGH THE FLOOR WHERE IT WILL HOWEVER, I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW TO GET THE LOCATION FOR THE COLUMN WITHOUT JUST HACKING A HOLE IN THE FLOOR AND HOPEING THAT IT'S THE RIGHT SPOT.

IF YOU NEED MORE SPICIFIC INFO JUST LET ME KNOW.

THANKS

BOMO

you will need the seat you are going to use and a short dummy column and wheel. mine is a mop handle with an old go=kart wheel on it. sit on the seat in the car, hold the wheel where it is comfortable, dummy up some column supports under the dash. then you can figure where the hole is going to be by where the column(mop handle) meets the floor

follow bobcrman's advice and i used a pvc pipe and foam insulation wheel cut to size after the brake and gas pedals were in. look where your steering box/shaft will come from, also center it on your seat and check the window/door handles also.
