it is best to have both tranny and converter match so the oil flow paths are correct to avoid over heating the tranny

Why do you want to run a 700R4 setup for a locking converter without one?

i run a 700r4 in my car with a non-lockup converter., been in the car for going on 10 years now and have had no trouble with it at all... even been to the east coast and back. (23 mpg with an inline 6 with a 500 cfm edelbrock 4 barrel carb)
the reason i went with the non-lockup was a) i didnt want any electronics to get in the way, b) didnt want to do the checkball thing with tcc apply in 3rd, and c) i already have 2.54:1 diff gears so i dont need a lockup anyway, but wanted the low (3.07 ) 1st gear.
to each their own..
