Locking a 12 bolt
I have what i believe to be the stock 12 bolt in my 73 K10. When looking at it it seems to have some kind of limited slip. I want to put a lock right in the diff but i guess they are only for open carriers. Was wondering if my carrier would work and if not what path i should take to get a lock right in the rear of my truck.

Is there something wrong with the limited slip you currently have? I would try to find out what type it is, first off, and go from there.
From what I've been told, the lock-right system isn't really the way to go in a performance car, as it is a fairly inexpensive unit, and will give you the whole tire-chip and ratcheting in turns thing... However, if this is what you are looking for, I would bet you could get someone to trade you an open carrier for your limited slip unit. In fact, if you had a 10 bolt, I would trade you, even if the unit you have needs to be rebuilt. (I've got 2 or 3 nice 10 bolt carriers that are open, and was seriously considering putting a lock-right into my truck, until some people here explained how they work...) Chris |
