I have lokar engine and tranny dipsticks in my SBC .I'm not sure if the engine came out of a car or pickup (if that makes a difference?) Its a 92 i think, with the centerbolt valve covers.Anyway when I changed my oil I thought I'd do some experimenting so I put in 4 quarts and started it up then shut it off and let it set for a while and the dipstick read about 1/2" below the add line. Then I put in the 5th quart and now it reads 1/2 way between add and full. I use the full size filter which holds a quart,(I fill it before installing)--so should I add more oil to bring it to the full mark--would be about 1/2 quart,or maybe make new add & full lines on the stick? I know a lot of U use the Lokar dipsticks---anyone else run across this? Mine has the dipstick on the pass side and I have the correct Lokar product for that application.

Never mind , guys---found out it wasn't seated all the way in the block!

i was going to buy a oil and tranney dipstick but my tranney guy said it is hard to put fluid in .is it true ? thanks kelly

Not really,the engine oil don't go in thru the dipstick , and they give U a little adaptor to put in the tranny tube , and then U can use a funnell that has a narrow neck. I bought a funnel at advance auto parts tht holds a quart and has a shutoff valve on it---I love it
