Look at all those extra holes in the intake!

Hey guys. Well, the pieces I have been awaiting from various vendors have been dribbling in to the ol' homestead, and I have busy bolting stuff on.

Not much left to go before I can go out & light up my F-BIRD'88 build. I have a question tho;

I bought a Weiand Stealth Vortec intake (I know F-bird'88, it is not a Performer RPM , but I like Weiand manifolds), and I am wondering what all of the extra holes for water passage are for.

There is no crossover water passages at the back of the intake so am I supposed to engage in something tricky with extra heater hose or plug them up.

I dunno, I am a product of simpler times, I guess.

Any suggestions?

Thanks F-bird'88

...and all of the others I can't remember offhand that have answered my pleas for guidance with this project, I am almost on the road!

On the other hand... Gee! look at all the cool new tools in my toolbox now!

I am building a Vortec for the first time also. From what I have read,Yes you need to install fittings and put a crossover hose.

There are four pipe thread holes tapped in the intake. Two on either side towards the front and two on either side towards the rear.

Many folks in Circle Track and Drag racing will connect a line from the rear holes to the front holes to increase the flow of coolant. That is what the "extra" tapped holes are designed for and can be used for. They are not needed for street application.

Most of the time for street application, the tapped hole towards the front on the passenger side is used for the temperature sending unit and the other three holes are plugged with a socket head pipe plug.

Weiand is not the only intake manufacturer to offer these "extra" holes. I have run an Edelbrock Performer Air Gap that came with the same tapped holes. I plugged three of them.
