For sure. Although they don't measure up to Oscar standards by any means, it's strange. I'll watch just about anything from ~1952 to ~1962 no matter how bad it is, as long as it's black and white. Around 1959 the picture quality of b/w improved a lot. If they sold a collection of bad 1959 movies, I'd dish out the twenty bucks.

I guess I just appreciate them the same kind of way I appreciate an Edsel. I'd also dish out twenty bucks for the Edsel.

Not "quite" a hot rod movie but close...... it's a movie about a crazy old Aussie and his Indian motorcycle called "The World's Fastest Indian", it's a true story and has some great Bonneville scenes plus tons of cool old Australian and American cars. I give it two thumbs up.

I started watching The Giant Gila Monster (1959) on DVD last night. This online version is a little darker. Not really a rodding movie, but features a mechanic and his friends who happen to be into rodding.

Some pretty cool looking cars. There's even one that's almost identical to Cboy's roadster, right up to the wheels. You can see it at 29:45.

The first scene might make you sob though. Yeah, they wreck a classic even by 1959 standards.

Some of these may have already been mentioned...

Hot Rod
High School Confidential (Original version)
Hot Rod Gang
Gumball Rally
Two Lane Blacktop
Cannonball Run
California Kid

Also, there are some nice 60's/70's cars in that new Denzel Washington movie, American Gangster.

I just thought of another. "Born to Run". Mid 80's I think. Kind of corny IIRC, but I liked it.

In a while, Chet.

They reviewed the Gila Monster movie on MST-3000 a few years back. Hilarious.

Hot Rod, AKA Hot Rod Willys, AKA Rebel of the Road is a great (not the acting or plot) movie about a kid building and racing a '42 Willys coupe w/ a 426 hemi. Stars Robert Culp, Pernell Roberts (Adam Cartwright), Gregg Henry, Ed Bagley Jr., Grant Goodeve.

Didn't see Heart Like a Wheel on any lists so far but is a biography of Shirley Muldowney (and a real hammer job on Connie Kalitta!). Stars Jeff Bridges, Bonnie Bedillia, cameo by Hoyt Axton. Very well done.

I think a couple of the best chase scenes I've seen are in the movies 'Rookie' with Clint Eastwood & 'Ronin' with Robert De Niro.

Hopefully the "roll over" was one of those movie tricks...where they actually used an old beater instead of a pristine car.

There are some cool little rods popping up in that movie. I really liked the roadster pickup that was in the same scene with the primer roadster you pointed out as looking like mine.
