Looking for Pontiac engine block no's

HI; My name is Bruce aka fathertime i am 72. I am working on a 1964 GTO, did a complete rewire front to back so now everything works. I am currently
trying to find block casting information. I printed off 19 pages of pontiac engine block codes but have yet to find the one on this block. The no's are
512375 can't find anywhere however the YC code tells me it originally had an
automatic trans. When i bought the car was told it had a 1966 engine which i believe is right. Any suggestions?

Bruce, These pictures will show where to find some of the useful codes and numbers on a Pontiac engine. Post them here and I'll try to decode them.

I have the casting no's from the front of the engine, however i can not find
these no's in 19 pages of pontiac casting no's.

NOT! That is a sequential number. I just tells which block it was of the run.

The block casting no. is behind the passanger side cylinder bank. The date code is behind the distributor, close to the bell housing. It will be a letter and usually three numbers. The letter is for the month, A=January, B=Febuary etc. The following one or two numbers is the date of the month and the last number is the last number of the year, a 6 could be for '66 or '76. Normally any block cast in July (G) or later was cast for the following model year.

Hope I didn't confuse you. If I did, let me know and I'll try to explain.

Bill
