looking for seat ideas for 51 chevy pickup
I have the stock bench in there now. I'm looking for suggestions on possible bench seats from other vehicles or maybe buckets.

2000 Silverado buckets with the center console. Works very well in my 65 after a couple seat frame mods.

How much room is there from door to door? A lot of the stock seats from newer pick-ups are going to be too wide, I think.

The late model full size seats would probably fit good in '55.5- up trucks and best in '66+, but the early trucks are narrower.. Actually as narrow as an S10 or Ford Ranger.. I'v seen some '89-'94 Toyota truck bench seats turned into 60's looking seats, and have a shifter notch in the center. '89/'90 in Ford Rangers had straight 60/40 bench seats. '91+ had back rests and an extended drivers seat bottom with an angle for the shifter. Not sure about S10's

The seats in my '79 Chevy, and my '97 Ford F-150 are 58" wide. I'm sure your '51 is narrower than that.

I measure the larger of the 2 rear seats from my Aerostar and it looks like a perfect fit for my 54 International. I'm betting your AD is about the same width inside.

Old thread but one that pops up all the time.
I've had probably 15 different seats in the 48 over the years trying to find "the" seat. If the truck isn't chopped the stock seat when redone right is probably the most comfortable. The second most comfortable seat and one that really fit the truck was out of a 66 Olds Tornado but those are near impossible to find in any condition and I wish I had stuck that one in the shed when the upholstery foam fell apart and kept it. Most two door car seats are too long front to back and take up too much room plus moving the driver too close to the steering wheel. The buckets (captains seats) in my 91 Dodge Grand Caravan look like they would fit pretty well but I have never tried one in a truck. I have a late 70's Dodge St Regis four door seat in the 48 now and while it fits the truck perfectly it is like sitting on a board and gives no additional support. The main thing is that the lean back can't be too thick or raked back too much causing the seat to take up a lot of extra room. |
