I have a fresh .040 over chevy 350 (factory roller motor), stock internals, KB 3418 (-5cc valve relief flattop) pistons .020 in the hole and some Mr Gasket (.028 compressed) head gaskets (~.048 quench). Due to unforseen circumstances I am considering buying new heads for this motor (orig. plan was to re-use my 882's for approx. 9:1 CR). I would like to use a 64cc aluminum head (edelbrock or similar with <190cc intake runner) but am concerned about the compression (approx 10.2:1 w/64cc) and cam selection.
I don't want to turn the motor past 5500 rpm so will be using a fairly small cam and I want it to run on 89 octane for daily use. Is this doable or should I look at some 72cc chamber heads?
