I have been messing with my machine the past few days and I have a loose lower stich. You can seethe lower thread across the material and see the loop from the upper, its not pulling in. Can this be a result of my bobbin thread tension from when I wind them ? Or the tension on the bobbin spring?
Please help me make what ever adjustment on the consew 225 so I can start on my project
I'll take a shot and say the upper thread tension is too loose. Don't touch the bobbin unless you already played with it. Crank the knob and check the results.
So just crank the knob for the disc down ? I can pull out the bobbin thread easier than the top thread, but hey I can easily try and tighten the upper. Thanks
The bobbin thread will ALWAYS pull out easier than the top thread, in fact there is not that much resistance at all. The only way to know if the tensions are adjusted is to sew with the machine. Make sure the machine is threaded correctly first. Nothing will help if the threading is wrong, all you'll do is make a bunch of unnecessary adjustments. For stitches laying flat on the bottom, either the top tension is too loose or the bobbin tension is too tight. If you haven't adjusted the bobbin tension before, tighten the upper tension with the knob on the front of the upper tension assembly. Keep track of how much you turn the knob by putting a mark on the edge of the knob lined up with the slot on the stud that holds the discs and the knob. Tighten in one turn increments at first and check the stitches. When you get closer to correct stitches, turn in one quarter and one half increments.
Is there a base setting for the tension discs ? snug, jiggling, moving arund or not ? also the lower discs ? I don't have a clue how to set them but belive my kids , my self and others have messed with the knobs while the machine has sat in the shop. Also could someone post a pic of the safety clutch reset button ? I belive I tightened the tension too much since the top thread lays flat ,but I tripped the safety clutch and cant figure out how to reset

I can't emphasize enough to make sure the upper thread is threaded through the machine correctly.
Leave the bobbin tension alone, and tighten the upper tension knob so that the knob is flush with the top of the threaded stud it is mounted on. Start from there and sew a few stitch lines. Check the results, and go from there. Most times the bobbin tension doesn't need to be adjusted, but that does happen.
Dan, thank you so much for your time and info. I cant say enough for you helping me with my questions. I only get a few hours a week to try and mess with it and have no clue so its hard. i HAVE 3 KIDS, WORK 55-60 HRs week , then I go into my own shop and try to manage work and do some myself. Leaving very little time to mess with sewing since its still a learning curve and I have other stuff I can do and know how to .lol
I belive I have found a very clear diagrham of how to route the thread where some one high lighted it in red, note the upholstery guy who was doing some work for us came by and dropped off stuff and threaded the machine, but it appears to be incorrect and I belive it bound up the upper thread.
What is the set of discs below th etension discs and how should that knob be set ?
There is only one set of discs on the upper thread tension assembly, and when you turn the knob that sticks right out at you clockwise, you tighten the top tension. The bobbin tension comes from a small piece of spring steel attached to the side of the bobbin case with two small screws. Tightening the front screw on that piece of spring steel is what tightens bobbin tension.
I got with your help. I printed the book you linked. I was able to get the machine threaded correctly, and tension set. I tested it for a bit then I made a nice cover for the machine, did top stiches and it came out nice. From here on out I think I will do much better since I don't feel like im in the dark
