use straight pipes. In the state of Texas you are not required to have a muffler. The only requirment is that the exhaust must exit to the rear or side of the passenger compartment and have no leaks. I wouldn't know about other states, check with your local state inspection station, if you are required to have a state inspection.

Hey man,

Yeah, just use staight pipes.
I live in Detroit, and I have a 95 CrownVic without mufflers. It's not that bad with a car that has 4 cats. If you don't have converters it will be significantly louder. Mine sounds good at idle, but when I get on it, wow. I passed one of my friends in his DelSol and he thought somebody was shooting at his car. I haven't been pulled over by the fuzz yet though. Weh I see a roller I just get out of the throttle. I've had my exhaust like this for 3 years.

In my state {iowa} i believe its as follows....
90 decibles @ 3000 rpm, standing 50 feet away at a 90 degree angle from the exit of the exaust....in other words really friggen loud.

DDDD--- D= car
DDDD--- --- = exaust exit
l l
l l= 50 feet away
l l
O O= cop with his decible meter
At this rate the decible meter has to read 90 dbl to get a ticket in iowa i believe, but id definately check your states laws

The inspections in my state (the peoples republic of Massachusetts) want you to have an exahust that "does not deviate from the OEM specification".
What a load of boloney!
No aftermarket stuff. All this does is keep the illegal sticker guys busy.
I'm moving to Texas. Any space down there?

i live in kansas, i dont really know the laws here, ill check into it, i asked some friends of mine, and the said that the cops down here are srict, and you will get a big ticket, if you run straight pipes. i wonder what some dumps would cost for a 1969 chevy long bed truck?

In the lovely state of Connecticut, you have to have mufflers and cats, but as a law abiding citizen, i took off all of those, i have a 1993 f-350 diesel, with 2.5 inch exhaust dumping into a 6 foot long 5 inch exhaust pipe off of a Peterbuilt. I cant hear myself think driving down the highway, and it has the sound of a glasspack at high RPMS....I scare people with it, its funny i love the attention i get, from both sides of the community.

im going to buy some of them dump from summit, i wonder if they make them so all you have to do is pull a lever to let it dump out, instead of having to take the plat off.

These are not cheap, but they are tricky. Electric dump plates. Flip the switch an you have dumps. Flip the switch again, and say "Hello oficer, that's not my car that's loud".
To pricey for me, but someday it would be a nice idea.

Nice! that looks like a simpeler design also. It just opens like a buterfly valve instead of a door sliding into a slot. Much better I think. Thanks

If the car came with a cat on it, it is illegal by federal law to remove it. You cannot legally remove any emissions components unless they are replaced by another certified emission compontent.

I dunno what the laws are in North Dakota but in my '79 camaro I am running headers to tuned glasspacks that are exsiting at a 45 degree angle out of the bottom of my car right under my front seats, No where near the back or sides of the car. I havent gotten pulled over for it yet and when I got pulled over for speeding out of town the sheriff liked my exhaust. I have had friends get pulled for little exh. that was on a big red ford that you could sit under and work on comfortibly.Kinda stands out around here it had a 460 and almost no exh. I agree though getting looks is fun and when someone makes you mad you can tell 'em, I just can it and smoke my tires and they sit and stare.
