vacuum modulator with red and black stripe are for low vacuum application.

harsh engagement into gear can be many things:

High RPM idle with tight converter.

Cushion plates removed from forward drum

PR spring from shift kit does raise line pressure.

Do not run vacuum line from a storage tank to the trans modulator. You need direct manifold vacuum
Dont worry how old you are... it is the mileage on your body that adds up.
