Lower Ball Joint on a 55 Mercury

I'm replaceing ball Joints and I can't seem to get the interior Bolt removed from the lower joint. this bolt is under or attached to the rubber bumper that is under the spring, without being able to remove the bol;t how do I get the lower joint out of the car, I have no problem removing the tapered bolt from the frame. Any input will be appreciated. Thanks.

55 Mercury

Thanks for the web page Jeff but there is no diagram about how that bolt is supposed to come out of the lower joint and i have placed the nut on it and tried to beat it up with a hammer and it still will not move, the other two are out and presented no problem.

lower ball joint

We have been able to replace these joints as the bolt was so rusted in that it appeared to be solid. It probably has been 30 years or so since they were replaced and we were afraid to put to much pressure on the bolt because of breaking it off, A nut and an upward hammer on the nut did not move it but after several days of soaking it withgunk we got them off. i apologise for posting this but if you have never done some thing before, there is a concern about messing up. Next time I will know.
