lower control arm bolts

im getting ready to reassemble my front suspension on my 66 impala.
i have a copy of the factory assembly manual for reference, as i was looking through it i noticed that the diagram shows a lock washer between the rear nut and the rear cam plate on the bolt assembly for the lower control arm.

the problem is that i don't have any lock washers for the bolts. and i don't mean i lost them because i was very careful to make sure i took all the hardware and reassembled the nuts and bolts with the parts so i didn't loose them and these would be big washers, around 1 inch. so there not easy to loose. the only marks on the nut or cam plate look round and smooth with a continuous groove not the little notch you would get from a lock washer.

so the car was driven without the lock washers because they were never there to begin with. do you think i should get some and put them on or keep it the way it was????????????

Some of them may have had self locking nuts. If you aren't sure buy some grade 8 lockwashers and put them on.

These a single bolt w/elliptical per lower control arm? Two total, one for each side? Holds the entire lower control assembly to the frame?

If so, that's the setup I have on my 65 Impala, and yes, IIRC, there's a bolt (welded to an elliptical of its own), a corresponding ellipitical washer for the other (rear) side of the frame, a lock washer and a nut. I think it would really need the lock washer, as it controls the camber.....

Or are you talking about something else entirely??? If so, I'll shut up.....
