Lower Radiator Hose (flex) kinks

65 camino 350....Ok here's the deal, i took off a lower flex hose and bought one the same length and diameter...The new one kinks where the other one just had slight bends...they are the same type of hoses straight flex...

heres a couple pics, sorry they are so dam dark its hard to tell...but they are the same hoses except in the 1st pic the old one on the right has a bend in it..2nd pic is the new hose, showing how it kinks, 3rd pic is the new hose also...

How do i get the new flex hose to not kink when i put it up on the water pump.. can i wrap it around a ball or something over night to get the bends to set or what....any tips or tricks?????
This is the only thing i had a prob with got everything else fine...replaced thermostat, water pump gaskets, other hoses, flushed my coolant out of my block and radiator, new thermostat... i already been to kragen today 3 times to get my hoses right...now i think i might have to go back tomorrow .. (kragen was cool today, they let me go back where the parts are and pick my own hoses )
so if theres anyway to bend it or whatever I need help on it pretty fast guys.. (im thinking in the back of my mind i might need a shorter hose...?yes/no)

thanks.
Abe.

Trade it in for one with a coil spring inside. They don't kink so easily.

Can you trim that one down a bit? and why can't you just walk in the back and get a hose that will work? they should have a hundred to choose from....if you can't find a stocker.

The only time I've seen one of those hoses kink like that was with a hose that had been hanging on the rack in the shop for about 10 years-rubber had hardened over the years. Why can't you use a preformed hose for your application?Unless you have an unusual radiator or water pump, there should be a standard preform available.

I just went back outside, and thought a little bit more....I think i am gonna have to go get a different shorter one...Seems as if this one is 4 inches too long. even tho its the same length as the old one. live and learn huh...

oh yea i forgot to say..the 1st trip there i got hoses for a 65 elky with 327 that they gave me.. those suckers were waaay small diameter and waay short...after coming back they let me go out back and help pick them from then on, tomorrows gonna be another story, i hope they let me back there again, it's alot easier seeing what they got and tryin to match them up than it is having them bring each one out at a time.

A hose for like a 72 Monte Carlo will have the diameter you're looking for plus will be plenty long enough to cut it to size.

...come to think of it...it would huh...(the peformed ones)

My dad was tellin me they might have came from the factory with the bends...i wouldnt doubt it even tho they look like flex hoses....reason i say this: heres the mistake I made. I never checked my thermostat or hoses since i bought my car round a year ago...Lately it started over heating in this weather were having out here. So i finally pull my hoses...the coils inside were rusted and some of them even broke off and were inside my radiator (now it takes a loooooong time to rust these, so id say they were stock from '72). That's the reason i flushed my radiator and block tryin to get them pieces out. The thermostat was completely rust, i could probably break it in half with my fingers that how bad it was....got all that crap replaced now im here with this problem.... ill get some pics of this crap and put it in my pic gallery tomorrow. Its nasty lol....embarassing too..

It'll be solved tomorrow when i get my arse back to kragens.

Thanks again for the help guys

ok heres the update for those that helped or are interested what happened.

I went back down today to Kragen, got a preformed hose..part #e70664 i have no clue what its off of.....I picked it off the wall...brought it home cut it to size and fits perfectly 3 bux more for that one than the flex hose...pretty good.

i uploaded 2 pics of my old rusty thermostat (in my photo album)....

thanks guys

*edit...just got back from a 45 minute cruise....driving it stays at 175-180 (i put a 160 thermo instead of the 180), stopped for a while it gets up to 200....perfect....it used to run 190 in the winter so i figure 10 degtrees for this summer heat...alls good
