Before I lowered a vehicle I'd take it to an empty parking lot at night and pull up to a speed bump to do some measuring. Just drive over a speed bump and park with the front tires just touching the speed bump. Then measure what you have for clearance from the lowest point to the speed bump.
Once you've got measurements to know your clearance you can decide how much drop you want to do, and whether you want to add bump guards to the frame to keep from banging things up under the truck.
