Lowering a C10 Chev PU (I'm shopp'n for a 70-72, what should I look for?)

Iím starting to shop around for a 1970-1972 C10 Chevy pickup and I want to know what to watch out for when I buy. I want to be able to lower it between 2 and 3 inches later. As I understand it, I need to have disk breaks (with spindles) if I want to lower the truck. Is this right? Anything else that I should consider when shopping?

FYI: I am pretty green when it comes to these topics.

If you plan on dropping it using drop spindles, they are not available for drums, as far as I know. You can purchase a complete disc brake conversion kit with standard or 2" drop spindles for many vehicles... I am not that familiar with kits for the C10, but there should be some out there.

You can also lower it some by cutting the springs, but you have to know what you are doing, or it can go sour. I dont see why the brakes would make much difference that way, unless there is more issue with hose clearence.

I wouldn't think it would matter which way you buy it, because you should put discs on it anyway... at least on the front.

Yeah, whatever you do you wanna have discs in the front to stop all that momentum.
I wouldnt suggest cutting the springs yourself, rather take it to a shop who will do it profesionally.

Actually, a disc will require more force to stop than a drum, and a valve will need to be installed to reduce pressure to the rear drum so they dont lock. Notice the new disc will be at least an inch larger than the drum. Most disc brakes vehicles will also benefit from a power booster, while drums do not really need one.

BUT, discs offer much more consistant stopping at different temperature ranges and humidity... very important in today's traffic. A drum will easily fade when hot or wet.
