I was wondering if anyone could indulge me with some insight on the interchangeability of various parts (ie. heads, acc brackets, manifolds) on ALL the different gen III LS engines (LS1, LS6, LS4, LS2, LM7, LQ9). Don't worry about the LS7 and LS3. I can't afford those thing anyway; haha. I'm just trying to figure out what I can put on certain engine combos to make speed. And one more thing...How difficult is it to put a newer (99 and up) standard tranny in an older car that was originally an auto? What are going to be my biggest obstacles? I know I'm asking for a lot. But I'm thirsty for info!!! It must be quenched!!

Most if not all Gen III parts will interchange.......A good 500hp setup would be a 6.0 Iron block out of a truck with L92 Heads and L76 intake, depending on if u choose carb or fuel injection. It's not recommended to bore the aluminum blocks over .010, which is why many people recommend the truck block.

About the transmission question, you will need to be more specific...what tranny into what car? Good Luck

manual tranny in an automatic tranny car the biggest thing IMO would be rigging up the clutch system, depending on how clean you want everything to look will dictate how easy everything else will be...

I'm looking into the LS1 and LS2 swaps also. You need to make sure you have trans tunnel clearance! What kind of car do you want to put it in? LS1.com and camaros.net both have some very good threads on the swap.

The swap (theoretically) is going in my tired old 76 corvette. I would of never even thought that tunnel clearance would be an issue. But I guess it makes some sense to look into it. And as far as rigging a clutch...IYO, do you think I'm better off getting the pedal assembly for a C3 vette and making it fit the later tranny/clutch. Or Do you think retrofiting the pedals from ...per say...a 04 GTO would go cleaner with the t-56 from the same car?

I would go for the GTO pedals.
