LS1 engine accessories: Any other power steering pumps work with the Camaro setup?
In attempting to install the F-body pump on the LS1, my suspension cradle is slightly too narrow. I looked at my 1998 Sonoma with 2.2L, and the pump is similar, with a 5 1/2" pulley rather than 6 1/2".
1. Used a different GM pump and pulley assembly successfully for a clearance issue? Will the Sonoma pump or another vehicle work?
2. Know which pulleys from other GM vehicles interchange on the F-body pump?
I see that the 04+ GTO pump may work, but do not like it's translucent reservoir. It just looks bad. Visual is 90% of hot rodding. :mwink:
Perhaps I could use it and setup a remote reservoir under the fender?
Your PS pump is a Type II, w/either a .750" or .660" shaft. (The Type I has an integral steel tank.)
There is a 5" pulley. It is for a .750" shaft. Part number is 10166335, goes for about $40.00 new.
Summit sells a nice aluminum reservoirs, p/n 340202, but it's steep @ $81.00. Nice hose, fittings and the 16 mm to AN -6 (Summit p/n 991955, $6.25), etc. is another $50.00, give or take.
The above info is in part from the May Car Craft.
The idea of a hidden tank is a good one, IMO- I'd opt for that, personally. BTW, a truck and F-body alternators appear to interchange.
