Lt1 6 Speed In A 66 Nova
I Am About To Install A Lt1 6 Speed In A 1966 Nova. Has Anyone Done This ,Or Know Anyone Who Has For Problems Or Solutions
|
:D
Original V8 equipped Novas with a manual shift transmission has a special V8 block ... with a raised oil filter location and a unique place on the side of the block for the clutch linkerage to attach. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ster/6c_12.jpg They also had a smaller bell housing ;) I believe you will have to do a LOT of fabricating ... to do install the newer style LT1 and the 6 speed. The 6 speed is considerably larger than a Muncie 4 speed. I would most likely plan on buying a new front clip for the Nova ... :embarrass This would allow for the coil/shock towers to be removed. http://www.heidts.com/images/Nova%20...20Subframe.jpg Lots better suspension, rack & pinion steering and disc brakes ... along with room for everything. |
Sorry,I had to edit this.I had a link to a 70.
Great info Deuce,I didn,t know there was a different block. |
Yes ... the block was different. The oil filter was raised for clearance. In fact, the V8 Nova blocks had a spin on filter ... before the rest of the V8 small blocks did.
http://www.totalcostinvolved.com/ass...vacoilover.jpg I have been told ... that the LT1 new style blocks have a different motor mount position than the old standard 58 up conventional SBC we all have grown used to. I do not have PROOF of that ... but have heard it from different sources. :embarrass |
