I have been entertaining the idea of dropping a 94 LT1 out of a caprice wagon into my 71 chevelle. I found a 94 caprice for about $500 bucks. The LT1 just had a rebuild(not sure exactly the extent of it) and the car runs strong. I was thinking about buying the car and just doing a direct swap of pulling the engine and tranny out of the caprice and dropping it into my chevelle. If I use all the sensors and computer from the caprice do I need anything else? I have a 350 w a powerglide in my chevelle right now, would I need different frame engine mounts? And if I did a direct swap what would I need for the tranny to work? I know I would need to move the transmission mount back a few wholes....Any help would be appreciated. Oh yeah, if you think its a bad idea to use a 94 caprice LT1 feel free to tell me that too.

great idea. use the LT1 tranny too. or get a tuner to program PCM to run only the engine. still will have to get VSS from somewhere. i am in the finishing part of sewing a 94 roadmaster LT1 in a 87 astro cs. make sure the pcm has it's grounds too.

i got my programming from soloman; power tune and mpg.
if you don't want to go thru all that hassle of building your own wiring harness like i did there are several dozens of people out the who do pcm programming and sell the appropriate wiring harness specific to your needs.

make sure you are ready to swap a LT1 cause there is more than changing parts.

first off is going how to get 42.5 lbs of fuel pressure to the fuel rails.

amongst much more dilemmas, but there are solutions, and most of all it can be done. with rewards.

the LT1 bolts up exactly like identical to the SBC. you may have to fab a mounting location for the tranny cross member, for whatever trans you intend on using. is the donors tranny any good?

Also... verify that it actually IS an LT1. The L99 looks externally identical, but only displaces 4.3L.
