machine stitch length

I have a problem with my machine, when I sew I can get a about 3 inches of good stitches then it will jump ahead almost a full inch and continue on. I have tried adjusting thread tension and that hasn't made a difference and I don't know what to do now.

It is really hard to diagnose a problem without seeing the machine. You need to take it to a sewing machine mechanic and get it looked over, set up properly, and re-timed.
