Main bearing clearance on a small journal 327?

What is the proper bearing clearance on a small journal 327? I've heard and read a few different measurements.

The rule of thumb is, anything under .001 is not enough, and anything over .003 is too much. I`ve seen both sides of the scale. Under .001 will result in a spun bearing. And anything over .003 results in a loss of oil pressure. So if you can, shoot for .0015

Not trying to hijack but why does main bearing clearance depend on application?

.0025-.003 would be great for a race engine. Forged metal expands more than cast when it heats up, plus since it is a race engine a little looser on the main and rods will be fine since it will be spun up 90% of it's life.
