Post Main Positive fireworks

I accidentally cooked my main positive cable against the header and melted the main negative as well now I replaced the cooked parts and the starter and now the starter won't spin very fast even though it has almost 16 volts at the starter. Anyone have any ideas about it?

Did you replace the wires you cooked with the same guage wire or is it a little more light weight?
