major bbc problems

i just got my 496 on the road, blew the tranny yesterday, swaped in new one and took it for a good drive. it seemed to have an engine miss, then i was at a stop light and put the car under load(about 1800rpm) and i heard a loud POP! so i limped it home and under load it did this POP a couple more times. THis is a new engine and combination, and i just installed msd distributer and msd 6al box. also just installed an electric fuel pump with return style regulator. Its got me confused,,, mabe fuel boiling? NEED HELP ASAP

thanks Ryan

Are you 100 % certain that the plug wires are in the right place, and on good & tight ?? If any are a bit loose,it could cause this problem, and this is assuming that you have good wires.Check this first,a loose wire will cause the problem you are describing.

Right,

check to make sure that your timing chain was installed correctly, I fired up a bbc once and the thing ran great but half the pushrods were bent because the timing set was installed incorrectly.

Piston to valve clearance can be an issue with Big Blocks

Pull the valve covers go through your rockers and make sure nothing is amiss. I suspect you will find the culprit there. Double V seems to have been there. I know I have.

Even if your trouble isnt in the valve train, break in has nothing to do with piston to valve clearance. If it is solid roller I guess you would have already had the valve covers back off to set your hot valve lash and you would have noticed it then.
