making bench seat covers

I want to keep my seats in the condition they're in. It's a 50/50 bench seat.

I have never done anything of this sort for a car, though actually making it won't be the hardest part - I don't know what to use to make the seat covers. What material would you folks make seat covers out of? I assume it is something fairly durable, just don't know what.

You basically have four choices. Leather, Ultraleather (100% polyurethane) vinyl, and fabric. If you choose fabric, use automotive grade fabric, not furniture upholstery fabric. If you choose vinyl, make sure it is high quality and recommended for auto use. If you choose leather, don't buy close-outs or bargains, they will make the job much harder and rear up and bite you every time.

What is the least expensive way to go? I just want something that won't wear out fast

Vinyl would be the least expensive, and would be the easiest to find with the most selections.
