Making a engine cover

I have a friend who is a artist , and recently drew up some artwork for a wild engine cover, my Nephew who does bodywork is interested in making the engine cover (bending and hammering ) my question is which would be easiest to work with , sheet metal or aluminum , I have heard its actually easier to work with sheet metal steel than aluminum.

Sheet metal is far easier unless your friend has experience working with aluminum.

steel by far. aluminum works hardens almost instantly - you constantly have to anneal it. it's also harder to weld and marginally harder to prime.
