If you can name an American made 4" grinder that is on par with Makita's, I will gladly buy one. Makita tools aren't "cheap" either. They're some of the best on the market, and I'll take them over Dewalt (Black and Decker) any day. And don't knock the Battery tools before you've tried them. I've used plenty of 18 volt drills that will break a bit and spring a wrist if your not careful.
