Well its kind of obvious that he would beat you. With that engine rearend ratio and ET I think that my truck could take your car. You need to do quite a bit to match your car to his 'hella' torque.

Well what you have now are highway gears. I run 3.73's in my car and like them. Of course they will cut down on mileage and you'll have more engine noise. Don't call this hotroddin for nuthin.

PS will also throw of speedometer.

Those numbers were for the gears at 3000rpm. Let me help a little more, so it can be easier for your selection.

mph in each gear at 3000rpm
Gears: 2.73 | 2.79 | 2.83 | 3.00 | 3.25 | 3.50 | 3.89 | 4.11 | 4.57
1st Gear: 35 || 34 | 33 ||| 31 || 29 || 27 ||| 24 ||| 23 || 21
2nd Gear: 57 || 56 | 55 ||| 52 || 48 || 45 ||| 40 ||| 38 || 34
3rd Gear: 87 || 85 | 84 ||| 79 || 73 || 68 ||| 61 ||| 58 || 52

Your motor must be a little tired, my heavier caprice runs the same 1/4 time, 2.56 gears, all stock except for a hi flow cat that splits to two turbo mufflers.

I would do gears first.

Some how I have a hard time believing that a caprice runs 16's with 2.56 gears and a 305.

I've still got the time slip, and one picture of it going through the traps at 17.00. I got a runner I guess, but only high 16's shouldn't be hard to believe.

If you r gonna put a 350 with a taller gear you should consider a 700R4 tranny so you can put a 411 and still have a very streetable car much the same as a turbo 350 with 3.73's or close. Then see what kinda kick in the pants you get.
