All said and done for your application you are better off with the HEI.
Recurveing the stock HEI mechanical and vacuum advance curves will dial it in for a performance application. The MSD HEI coil is a great upgrade.
The dual point distributor is best used with a aftermarket ignition box (MSD etc )
That way the current across the points is greatly reduced and the ignition output power is jumped up a good bit. The points (used to switch the spark box thru the white wire) will last a long long time like this with a bit of routine lube on the points/cam rubbing block. (the current draw across the points in this configuration is minimum)
Best with vac adv for the street.
