As one of the Moderators here..........let me be the first to WELCOME YOU... here ...

I deleted you other post because it was exactly the same ( word for word ) as this one.

I would just find a 68 to 72 Nova with manual steering and switch the parts.......BUT I believe you will regret it.........I had a Big Block ( Factory installed ) 69 Nova.......4 speed car and power steering would have been nice.......

Steering Box

To cahnage over to manual steering you will need the appropriate manual steering box..Not sure but that may be a wrecking yard part..You may wind up going to Borgeson for a new box with the correct bolt pattern to fit your car...

When I converted my 79 Malibu to manual, I got a manual box from an 80's era S-10. I am not sure if the bolt pattern from your year Nova would be the same though. I gave a little over 10 bones for my manual box at a salvage yard.

You know, I'd be curious about you removing the power steering belt only and taking it for a drive. Now I know most manual boxes would have gears tailored to non power but It may give you a general idea and also may be acceptable as is.

I converted to a power rack on my '55 and the power pump is just a hair too much for the rack. Until I get around to getting a PS adjustable pressure valve, I have been driving it around with no belt. It's better than the stock manual steering and I absolutely love it. Just thinking out loud.

steering

Go for it. I dont like power steering. Drove cars most of my life without it, so why do i need it in my rod. Im only 120lbs wet, but i can still drive without power steering. I think we sometimes get to fancy with these old cars. You might as well buy a new car. I think we are getting away from real hotrods, and this takes alot of the fun out of driving for me. The only thing i added to my 48 chevy is disc brakes, because i do need to stop fast in todays traffic. I guess im just to old fashioned. But we all need to do what we want cause thats what makes hotrods interesting. And i do like them all.

I would agree that the early power units lacked road "feel," but, since P/S is now used universally in oval cars...even for short races..., that is obviously not the case with the later ones. I have a manual rack in my '65 Sprite (which weighs only slightly more than a Dwarf, even with the Jap engine) and I would love to have power!

(Please, I don't want to start an emotional exchange here. My upper body strength is still as good as the average 20 year old. And, I realize that it's a matter of preference. I'm just pointing out that there are indications that you don't have to give up road feel while enjoying the driving ease afforded by power steering.)
