Marine 454 in a 55'

I have a chance to buy a 454 marine engine just pulled from a freshwater boat, for $1,700 (Low hours). The owner says it has 330 horsepower and the cylinder cranking pressure is 180 lbs. in each cylinder (Sounds high).
Not being a Marine mechanic, I was wondering if this would be a good choice to put in my recently purchased 55' Chevy with a Turbo 350 or 400 trans
and a 9" Ford rear-end (3:73). I'm looking for low-end torque, not high-revving horsepower. The water pump and exhaust manifolds need changing, maybe the cam & distributor too. Adding to that the carb is probably set-up differently, but I'm wondering about the back of the crankshaft mating to the flywheel. Water circulation I'm told, may be difficult because of the way marine engines flow (Even though the engine turns clockwise) and what about heater hose outlets.
I'm looking for someone that is sure about these questions... Thanks.

****,.... That Marine motor is basically a Truck motor of that vintage, with Marine exhaust manifolds, 'n t-stat housing added to it....

The water pump is 'bout the same, but you'll need headers to replace the manifolds...
Ya might want a hotter cam, distributor will run just fine...
Crankshaft bolt pattern is determined by Vintage, 'n is the same as All BBCs..
Water circulation don't change other than the t-stat housin', 'n manifolds,...
'n, Btw, it's a standard Lefthanded motor, yer lookin' at the wrong end,...
Heater outlet/ inlet can be put whereever ya need 'em...

Treat it as if ya yanked it outa a Truck,...

The cam may work great for you. I have a couple of customers that have used marine cams in their BBC's and love the torque.

Yes, just a truck motor with better gaskets. Be careful and get the correct flexplate for the series of BBC. Mark IV and V flywheels look the same but are balanced different.

$1,700 is a LOT. Look around some more for a better deal. I wouldn't pay more than $1000 for a running 454. Craigslist is where i found my small bock, lots of good deals there.

Wet 454

Is it a gen 6 454 or an older one. Marine engines are high nickle castings stronger. Should also be 4 bolt mains 330 hp should be big port heads. If it is a late model it will also be a Roller Cam. Will use a little more oil on the street do to the added piston clearance set for marine applications. In my opinion not a bad deal if it is a 96 or newer and complete. The marine set up will make great torque and run good to 5200 RPM's. Has a different cam grind than the truck engine. All late engines are 4 bolt mains. The stock 502 cam would be perfect for a cam up grade if it's a 96 or newer. You can re use the lifters, need to change springs and intake gskt. other gskts are re usable if not damaged. Late model's also require electric fuel pump. Also will not be able to use dist unless it is an older engine.

I changed my mind on that boat engine (I'm told that the engine was sold anyway).
I think I'll buy a rebuild-able car or truck engine
