massive oil leakage

I just picked up my 72 el camino (400 small block) and I was driving it home and I smell burning oil, I think "no big deal, check it when I get home" well by the time I got home the thing was smoking really bad, and the bottom of my engine compartment was soaked......

I know the timing chain cover had a small leak and I see the gasket material hanging off so I'm assuming thats my problem, but my question is if the timing cover is the only problem would that be blowing oil with enough force to splatter the inner fenders and headers? appreciate your input, thanks guys

on all chevy small blocks, they have 2 holes one over the other on the front of the block, on the passenger side, in the upper hole there should be a bolt in it, otherwise oil will leak out like crazy. refill it with oil and start it and let it idle, look all around for oil leaks, such as valve covers, oil pan and etc.
