Depends on what your trying to make. If you are making pieces for the aircraft or space industry then you would use carbon graphite cloth. Some boats are made of a Kevlar composite while others are made the traditional way with fiberglass cloth or fiberglass mat. If structural strength is not a primary concern as in making a console for a car, you could use lightweight cotton batting or polyester fleece.

Vince, I caught that too. I just saw an SR-71 at the Evergreen Aircraft museum in WA on my vacation last month, VERY cool indeed.

When that plane was first released, do you know what started it? How about a PAIR of 425 Buick nailheads! My brother has a photo of the "starter cart" with the motors clearly in view. I'll have to get it from him and scan it.

If you ever have a chance to get to the museum, it is one of the best. The SR-71 is sitting on the other side of a Titan missle next to the Spruce Goose, and there are about 40 other planes as well.

I saw my first SR71 for real when I was stationed at Norton AFB in 1970. I was sent TDY to Edwards AFB to train on the C5 Galaxy which was just entering active service. That sucker will raise the hair on the back of your neck, it is that wicked looking. I recently saw another one at the Intrepid air and sea museum in New York harbor. If you ever get a chance to go to NY that museum is a must see.
