Material supplier for small quantities
 

I have a few small projects I wanted to tackle.
Roll bar covers, safari top and a wind screen.

None of them are very big or complicated but I am having trouble locating the materials. The local upholstery shops seem to avoid automotive products. The online sources have been good but most of them have me buying large quantities of things like staps, velco and binding materials.

Is there a site that would let me purchase small quantities by the foot or yard?

This should be a different post but what thread should I be using for vinyl. The local stores had a small sellection of "dual purpose" thread.

Try McMaster Carr They will sell small quantities where the others don't.

Might look around for a couple of upholstery supply shops.

Have a couple here in San Antonio that just about have everything you would ever want or need.

From seat belt webbing to windshield clips and everything in between.

McMaster Carr does not sell upholstery supplies. There are three places on line that might sell in smaller quantities: Rochford Supply, Your Auto Trim, and Perfectfit McDonald. If you still have trouble finding things in small quantities, PM me.

As far as thread goes, you can use bonded nylon or bonded polyester in size 69, 92, or 138. (The higher the number the thicker the thread. Size 138 is twice as thick as size 69.) Both are equally strong, but polyester handles color fading, and UV protection a lot better than nylon. If what your sewing will be outside all the time, use polyester.

Look again, McMaster Carr sells Velcro, Straps of all kinds and any kind of staple you can name!

Sometimes you just go to Ebay and look for suppliers with many sales and 95% or better ratings. I've done that with many very small quantity items and so far all have been 100% good supplies. If I screw up, shame on me - and that has happened too :pain:

Do they sell binding, or thread? I was trying to steer him toward a place that had everything he was looking for, and an upholstery supply place will probably have better prices for upholstery supplies.
