Or would it be cheaper just to go for the whole vinyl stripes? I'm going to be painting this car myself and I'd prefer to do all the work on it myself, so would I be able to cut and place the vinyl stripes myself? How much$$?

Make sense to me to shoot the flat back stripes and mask and shoot the rest of the car and finish the edges with some vinyl striping tape or if you are good with a striping brush..I would suggest that you shoot some samples on an old hood or something to get your technique down before shooting the car if you have not done this before..The pros are not averse to doing that to see how their color combos and techniques work..Laying down larger areas of vinyl is not for the faint of heart i really like to reccomend that you see the local sign guy for that..narrow accent types of stripes are easy and you can do that..

I have tried most all of it and now do what is known to work..
