Matte Black Stripes

I'm going to be painting my 65 mustang soon, and i've decided on a metallic charcoal to go with. I've seen a few newer camaros around with matte orr satin black stripes on a similiar paint scheme and i really like it. i'm worried though because i know i probably cant clear coat them so i'm wondering how they'll work out not being level with the rest of the paint. i also know i cant even touch them with a buffer. how does gm do it, or how can i do it?

GM uses decals on the new camaros.

Would you recommend going with the vinyl then or painting them on myself? Where would i acquire vinyl like that anyways?

I would recommend using vinyl decals to achieve the look you are going for. Another option would be to do the two-tone paint and then lay a thin pin stripe of another color down over the line separating the glossy and the matte finishes.

Kind of like this only in reverse:

Clear coat it with a flattening agent mixed in. Or, use a flattened black paint.

Our local sign guy has a huge catalog of various vinyls and even has the car wraps so if you have someone like that in your area making the stripes should be a simple deal..

Man that black hot rod looks dang good, now you've got me rethinking my whole paint scheme! I wonder how it would look if i just sprayed the matte black stripes then followed the edges with some gloss black vinyl pinstriping?? Does that sound easy? Or would it be cheaper just to go for the whole vinyl stripes? I'm going to be painting this car myself and I'd prefer to do all the work on it myself, so would I be able to cut and place the vinyl stripes myself? How much$$?

Make sense to me to shoot the flat back stripes and mask and shoot the rest of the car and finish the edges with some vinyl striping tape or if you are good with a striping brush..I would suggest that you shoot some samples on an old hood or something to get your technique down before shooting the car if you have not done this before..The pros are not averse to doing that to see how their color combos and techniques work..Laying down larger areas of vinyl is not for the faint of heart i really like to reccomend that you see the local sign guy for that..narrow accent types of stripes are easy and you can do that..
