Post max cam for stock 72 350 exhaust

read quite a few posts on another site from guys unhappy about their headers on their camaros. (too noisy-whaa!) but was wondering if i left my exhaust stock how much i could put on my 350 before i start wasting my time. i want to put my RPM and holley 600 on it, valve job, new cam. was thinking a 270 duration may be good but might be overkill since my manifolds are the kind that look like an "E" laying on it's back with rear exit. i dont know what the heads are but since it's an SS it must have 194's anyway. arent these manifolds one of the worst?

Why would you not want headers? For 100 dollars and a little time you can have the most simple and best basic horsepower upgrade for a car. The greatest bumper sticker in the world said....
"If you think this is too loud your too old" If you have a full exaust and headers it will still be quiet

Be sure to get good quality headers with thick flanges. I bought some Hedman awhile back with 1/4 " flanges and they were not true out of the box. I spent about 2 hours filing and grinding to get them true, also spend the extra money and buy coated headers, they'll last longer and look good.

I agrre with nickel, too loud, too lod.

SOMEWHERE ALong the line i forgot to mention this is the ol' hides car. i dont think she'll care, my friend has some old camaro headers i think i can get for free so on they will go. then i can put what i want on top. does anybody have any good or bad experiences with the pre-made exhausts? i thought hedman was one of the better brands??? their hustlers won the masters challange, but those are drag race headers.
