Post Mazda computer problem, help!

The computer (ecu) took a dump on me today, the shop where I took it says: $1800 for a new one! Jeeeez Louise, the truck isn't worth but 2 grand. what alternatives do I have? I'm thinking of the local pick a parts places, but what I would really like to find is a new or rebuilt unit for a decent price. There's got to be something out there somewhere. I did the internet search tonight, came up with one place from New York. Any ideas? The plan right now is to buy another pick up to get me to work, find a fix for the Mazda and then sell it to recoup some of the money I have to lay out for the new truck. Thanks, Dan

what year is the Mazda? have you checked all the parts dealers in your area? that sounds steep even for an import. when all else fail hit the bone yards.

$1,800!! I would definately look into the partsyards. I've never heard of antyhing like this costing anywhere near this much. BTW, what year/model/displacement is your Mazda? Is there anything "special" about it?

Sorry about the info, I'm still in a state of shock..lol. It's a 91 mazda B2200 pickup, 2.2 litre. nothing special about the truck, it does run great though and I'd like to be able to save it.

I found a site where a guy can send in his computer, or ecu, to have it rebuilt for $175. Beats the $1391 price I was quote from the dealer. ($1800 price quote was from the shop owner, now there's an easy way to make $400!) here's the website, they have ecu's for many makes of vehicles. http://avproecm.com/index.htm
I hope I did this right. Thanks for the help from the members. Dan
