Cool Me thinks me got a deal.

hello hotrod pals.
I went to the Springfield swap meet today. There was tons of parts up there. Wasnt to crowded either. I was looking at some engines and things for the Gremlin and this is what I ended up with. I decided to go ahead and build the blown small block so I bought a 350 4 bolt block(standard bore), factory steel crank that may just need polished and a reconditioned set of steel rods with (I think) the 12 point rod bolts installed and ready to install. I paid a mere 300 bucks for the whole package! That will mean after the block work and the polishing, I'll have about 550-600 in an all steel rotating assembly stuffed in a 4 bolt block. Think it was a good deal? Im pretty amped up. Im still later going to buy a Hemi, but its going to go in a different project. Anyway, just wanted to share. HG

Did you already find a blower? Is there someone local who reconditiones them or are you going for a new one? I found duel quads on a high rise with linkage for $200, the carbs need rebuilt, and the guy had the carb kits too! I looked at a 144 blower setup but couldn't get up $1200 and someone else bought it. Came with two gasket kits and was used onec, the guy put it on a camaro and found it wouldn't go under the hood as advertised without raising the hood?? I didn't know thye made them go go under the hood???

Hey, HemmiGremmie

I was cruisin' out on an interstate in Nashville, TN one night ... on my way out to Dyersburg, TN (about a 3 hour drive - normally) ... I was in a brand new Toyota MR2 and going 99 mph when this freaking Gremlin came up behind me like I was sittin' still! Scared the beejeezuz outta me, man! I believe it was an off duty cop. He was flashin' his lights and stuff, too, trying to get me to pull over, but I just slowed down to legal speed and ignored him till he took an exit and left me alone.

Man ... I don't know what he had goin' on under the hood of that Gremmie ... but it were MEAN!!!

That wasn't you, was it?

HGNo wasnt me. Unless my Gremlin has turned into a Christine type of car and is out cruisin around by itself.
They make some blowers to go under the hood, but only on some cars do they set under it. You have to put a scoop on or use a real thin filter. Myself, unless your going for all out sleeper, Id want that thing looking like a skyscraper coming out of the hood, but hey! I do drive a Gremlin, so Im a little different. HG

Hey HG if you want it to look like a sky scraper coming out of the hood, I have a buddy that has a 14-71 blower sitting in his garage just collecting dust. You would probably have to underdrive the crap outta it on a mild small block, but it would definatly stick outta the hood like a Sky Scraper, specially with a big carb spacer & 2x4's. Oh yeah he already has a carb baseplate with alcahol injectors mounted in it just incase you were looking for some serious HP.
