mech fuel pump insulator on chevy big block

Hello!
I'm just about to install fuel pump on my new build but have a question regarding the insulator, do big blocks using these as original?
Last time I installed a new pump was on a chevy small block and they had this insulator..

I don't know if you say insulators but at summit they are namned like that:

What I mean is like a very thick gasket that I think should block from heat (I think?).

It doesn't feels like there should be a thick plate/gasket inbetween because without it is still is a pretty long way between when the rod lost contact with the mech fuel pumps lever arm and when it's starting to be contact again (when I turn engine over by hand while my brother holds the pump against the block).
with a insulator it feels like that the rod wouldn't push on the pumps lever arm for a long way enough.
