Media Blasting in SE US

You folks know of any media blasting outfits in the SE US (I'm in Montgomery, AL). I've been able to find three folks in the region who do soda blasting. Aside from not seeming to be a popular technique on this forum, the cost is pretty high. . .I was quoted a price of $200/hr. So...any outfit working with a media other then sand and soda appropriate for flat panels.

Cheers!

Thats sounds about right as you can figure $400-800.

Call Bobby at B+S supply in Prattville on Hwy 14.
He knows all of them in your area.

Hi, I live just above you at Lake Martin and I was buying my blasting sand for my 66 mustang from a place on the northern bypass right across the street from the old winn-dixie warehouse. He also does blasting, I will find the name this evening if you would like. I have some tickets left over where I purchased the sand. Good sand, way better than the playground junk. Very nice guy to do business with also... gary.

I'm trying to stay away from sand on these flat fender panels but would definately like the name of the guy who you purchased the sand from. Although someone told me that "sheerblasting" with sand and water does not cause warping. . but I think I'll stick with media (if I can find someone reasonable).

There is a guy up near lake Martin (off Hwy 14 I think) near Santuck who advertises blasting (off the road). Any idea on who this may be?

By the way, I got an estimate from folks in Milton, FL for $100/hr for plastic media blasting. Difference with the quote from the folks who quoted the soda blasting is that Milton says it will take twice as long to media blast a fender. Sigh. .its never easy.

plastic media is not that much slower. the big difference is you can get really aggressive with the plastic. keep in mind a car has to be clean before it can be stripped. we reclaim the media and it sticks to grease 800 to 1200 depending on how bad. plastic then starblst for rust.

OK, I've tried to upload pictures of fenders I want media blasted. Note hatchet for scale. A little rust and perhaps some undercoating (albiet light undercoating) on two fenders. Either way, you can tell these aren't big fenders. Surely it would not take $100 (=1 hour work) to blast one of these.

OK I found I guy on the internet in Moultrie, GA who says he can blast for $40-$50 per fender. The company is Southern Powder Coating. Sounds a little too good to be true. Again, some of these parts have heavy rust scale and light undercoating. He says he uses black beauty(starburst) media. Are there any questions I need to be asking before I make the drive??

Bama foundry is the place that I bought the sand from. I asked and he said they did the media blasting...but that was about 4 yrs ago. Phone # is 263-3446 it's on the northern blvd at 1427 N. Court ST. Real easy to get to by turning off the Northern blvd onto the court st. and it's just right there...good luck..gary.
