As long as the heads are the 12 bolt style, the intake will exchange. There are differences in the center bolt angles depending on the tyear of the heads, but if they're correct for the block they're on now, there's no problems. More on intake manifold bolt patterns is here.

    The exhaust manifolds will fit.

More on ID'ing the different engines is here.

    Good luck!

    Hello,

I was reading your post and you seem to have the most knowledge on Chevy Blocks. We need to replace a motor in out boat. We had a rod failure last year. The result was not pretty. Anyway the motor we are replacing had a casting number of 1243880. I found a complete motor that i think will work but it has a casting number of 14093638. The old motor has 12 bolt intake and center valve cover bolts. I am certain the new motor has enter valve cover bolts but not sure about how many intake bolts it has. The new motor also has H/O heads.

Question... Do you think this motor will swap out easily and do you think the exhaust manifolds and intake bolt up to the new motor?

I appreciate your response. You can also email me at jcoovert@cisindy.net. Thank you!!

If it's got good bores and the decks will clean up, I'd recommend you to build the 400 SBC, personally. Two bolt blocks are now preferred but 4-bolt blocks are OK, too.

    Hell Cobalt327,
I need some suggestions building a motor for my sons Sprint car. At the present, we only have a production SBC block (010/020 casting) that is bored .040 but the cylinder walls on the left side are pitted pretty good so another bore needs done. I am needing to run high compression (running alcohol) with Hilborn injection. I am also looking at buying some AFR 215cc Eliminator heads as suggested by AFR. We are using a 3.75 stroke Scat crank and 6" Lunati rods. I have been looking at the Probe SRS Forged Pistons #13719-060 for the new pistons after the new bore. Do I really need to use a dome piston to get the compression I need for running alcohol? I noticed that the domes are more expensive than FT's. I am also going to be changing over to a roller cam but unsure which one I am going with right now. It needs to be somewhere in the RPM range of 4000-7500. Can you give me some advice on this build? Thanks
