Membership numbers

Jon, I kind of miss the membership numbers that used to be on our posts. It was an indication of how long you had been around. I see we have the join date and that basically tells the same thing, but I still liked those numbers. Do you suppose we will ever get them back or is there a good reason that I don't know about that you removed them?

Our newer board software does not display membership numbers by default. It would be easy to adjust the software to do this, but I specifically decided not to do it. I didn't want people placing too much weight in a specific number relating to a person. And, like you mentioned, the join date basically tells the same thing. So, for newer users wanting a "quick check" as to how reliable someone's advice is going to be, they can look at join date and post count.

You might have noticed that we removed Lounge postings from post count as well. This turned out to be a good decision, as we had some members with very high post counts, many of which were Lounge posts. Of course, post count will never be a perfect analysis of how smart someone is, but now that Lounge posts are not counted in post count, it does tend to be more accurate for a quick estimate.
