Mercury Topaz

My 1994 Topaz with 2.3 motor will start fine when cold but will not take gas when first starting out when it's cold and first started. It acts like the timing will not advance. You can give it more gas pedal but it will not respond, just hold back. The car has 158,000 miles and runs great after that initial holding back problem. Any ideas from a Ford Tech out there? Thanks, Rich

I would suspect the COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR and/or connection. It sounds like cold temp fuel enrichment.

You need to scan the ECM.
