messed up gages

i drive a 1996 4wd GMC Yukon and i am sick and tired of my gas gage not reading well. a friend of mine borrowed it and ran it out of gas and now the gage moves wildly even if you just bump into the car. How would i get this fixed? it has an electric fuel pump. thanks for your advice.

I find that most GM fuel guages (new or old) seem to do this. Probably not enough baffling in the tank. I think that I would just learn to live with it......probably too expensive to fix it to be worth the while.

In my 98 truck the fuel pump and the fuel gauge is all one unit and it runs about 250 I think and it is a pain to change. You have to drop the tank.
