Thumbs up Methyl Ethyl Ketone MEK.

is great stuff. it will remove old dried body filler from plastic spreaders. even if it's weeks old.
it'll also melt rubber gloves.
it's a wonderful solvent. get yourself a gallon at the hardware store.

I don't know about the US, but MEK is banned substance in our industry (flexo printing), here in Canada.

It is known to enter the body through the skin and can cause neurological damage.

I would be very careful with it. The fact that it melts rubber gloves should tell you something. Keep using it and "welcome to la la land"

I think that's the same liquid that you add drop by drop to liquid resin to make it go off?

It's not banned in Canada, I use it everday at work. It is not a carcinogen, check this MSDS.

Didn't say it is banned in Canada, Said it was banned in our industry. We print food packaging. We used to use it in the inks and glues, until the early 90s..............From the MSDS:

Breathing MEK for short periods of time, such as when painting in a
poorly vented area, can adversely affect the nervous system. Effects
range from headaches, dizziness, nausea, and numbness in fingers and
toes to unconsciousness. MEK vapor irritates the eyes, the nose, and
the throat. Direct, prolonged contact with liquid methyl ethyl ketone
irritates the skin and damages the eyes. These effects are not expected
to occur at levels of MEK that are normally found in the environment.

Human health effects associated with breathing or otherwise consuming
smaller amounts of methyl ethyl ketone over long periods of time are not
known. Workers have developed dermatitis, upset stomachs, loss of
appetite, headaches, dizziness, and weakness as a result of repeated
exposure to MEK. Laboratory studies show that exposure to large amounts
of MEK in air causes animals to give birth to smaller offspring.
Studies also show that repeat exposure to large amounts of MEK in air
causes adverse liver and kidney effects in animals.

MEK in a gallon can is not the same chemical as as the polyester catalyst, that is MEKP (methyl ethyle ketone peroxide). Try some on a sample of polyester resin, it will do absolutely nothing.

Both however are very nasty characters and should be treated as such. No contat with bare skin, rated organic vapors respirator, and certified chemical gloves are an absolute must

thought I'd post anyway...I saw a MEK thread started by Larry and thought he might be giving advice for mixing it in drinks....
whew...that not the case....carry on boys.....!!

Isn't MEK a big part of Acetone....?? I use acetone to clean up the equipment after doing custom fiberglas work!
