I Googled MTīs name and this article was way down the list, others
were of the opinion the police had put it to one side and forgotten it.
I read way back that MT made lots of enemies in his business activities
but that should not deny him justice.

This report on The Mickey Thompson Murder is quite old but it lays out what happened.

I read the "read this article" and it says there that Mickey Thompson was the first man to travel at more than 400 MPH on land.

I could not remember him doing this so I looked up the Land Speed Records here :- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Land_speed_record

You will see that the first person to exceed 400MPH was Craig Breedlove in 1963, Mr. Thompson is not mentioned anywhere in the Official Land Speed Records.

Breedlove was a jet car driver, Thompson wheel driven piston engine.
Thompson wenr over 400 mph but couldīnt do the return run in time so itīs an unofficial record.

An unofficial record is not a record of any kind, we could all claim those. The world is full of "Nearly" cars sitting in Museums and charging people money to see fakery, for instance the Budweiser Rocket sitting in the Talladega Superspeedway Museum claims to have been the first car to break the Sound Barrier on land, which again nobody saw, or heard, but if you repeat the claim often enough, everyone will believe you.

The first, and only man to break the 400MPH barrier in a Piston Engine Car was Bob Summers, USA in 1965. 409.277Mph.

I agree with you.
I have also seen Al Teague and Nolan White credited with going over 400,
but they are not listed in the official records.
Maybe youīve found some better links.

The first man to break the 400MPH barrier one way (If anyone wants to count that) was John Cobb driving the Railton Mobil Special in 1947 see here :- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Land_speed_record.

If a claim can be made for his one way speed then it would have to be the first "American" to break 400MPH.

I'm sure Mickey Thompson made a very large, and important contribution to American Motorsport which deserves recognition, but to make spurious claims about records only belittles the brave men who actually hold those world records.

Hey Moss,
Don't trust Wikipedia for 100% accurate information. The info posted there is by regular guys that don't necessarily have correct information. Anyone can post.

I do NOT doubt your post, but all I am saying is, quoting Wikipedia, is like saying "My brother says.....".

I have a stack of HotRod magazines from the 60s and he had his fingers in just about every kind of racing it seems. He bult a slick little rail with 2 al;uminum Buick V8s and several 2 and 4 engine cars for drags and land speed records.
