mid eighties 350 TDC

Does anyone know of a mid eighties chevy 350 that had TDC at the 12 o'clock crank position when viewing the block from the front. The timing cover has the pointer at that position. When checking for TDC through #1 cylinder's spark plug hole it appears to be so. Any info is helpful.

Yes, there are many and I have two! LOL 86, 305 Caprice and 86, 3/4 ton truck, 350. It's a pain to see past all the vacuum hoses and crap but does work. You will also notice there is a tube built into the timing tab on the cover. That was used for a magetic sensor that most scopes had on them. It would read the timing without a light or even looking. The shop I was in had one and it was slick.

Yeah I thought only 305's had the timing tab at the top but then i got into some 1980-1986 350's that had it there as well. I believe the 1987 and up are on the side though. As far as the balancer goes you just need the timing cover to match your balancer, most aftermarket covers don't have a tab at all and it is up to you to find TDC and mark it on the timing tab.

When you're stretched out trying to get your face and the timing light both behind the water pump at the same time, be sure the fan, etc., doesn't catch your shirt-tail. It almost got mine.
