Miller Spectrum 500 Plasma

My father passed away a few years ago and I am now helping my mother clean out the barn. I came across a few machines. One is a dial arc 250 and the other is a Miller Spectrum 500 DC plasma cutter. I plugged it in and it runs but the light for the torch is on. The end of the torch is kind of butchered up about 2 inches from the bottom of the gun. I don't know if he just never wanted to buy another gun for it or if there was more to the problem. I wouldn't mind buying another gun for the machine if it will fix it. Is there really any way of telling if the gun is the issue?

The light will come on on most machines if the air pressure is low or no air pressure.. If you hook up the air to it, It should go off.. Some machines you have to turn them off then back on..Give that a try..

You can get the original Miller manual for that machine by downloading it free at Miller's site http://www.millerwelds.com/service/o...uals.php?model You'll need to enter the serial number of your machine and then scroll down thru the list below and highlight the Spectrum 500.

Be careful if you open it up. There are some high DC voltages present in plasma cutters that can light you up much more than the same level of AC voltage.

Take it to a local Miller dealer,i've delt with qute a few them all over and most are very helpful, something that most of them would probably be glad to take you back into the shop area and try it out to see whats wrong with it for you without charge,as long it's a good guy looking to get some bussines from you for consumables and repairs.worth a try any how.
The best way would be to show up there with it,don't call, most of the time calling them they will say drop it off and we will look at,walking in the door with it will most likely get immediate results to at least try it out.
